is that within every individual which partakes of the nature of the
Universal Wholeness and - in so far as it operates - is God. That
is the meaning of the word Emmanuel, the meaning of the word Christ.
There is that within us which partakes of the Diving Being, and since
it partakes of the nature of the Divine Being, we are divine.
It reacts to us according to our belief in It; and it is an immutable
Law, subject to the use of the least among us; no respecter of persons,
It cannot be bound. Our Soul will never change or violate its own
nature; all the denying of it will never change it; all the affirming of
it will never make it any more than it is. But since it is what it
is, and works in the way that it works, it appears to each through his
belief. It is done unto each one of us as we believe. ... We
will say, then, that in spirit, man [generic] is One with God. But
what of the Great Law of the Universe? If we are really One with
the Whole, we must be One with the Law of the Whole, as well as One with
the Spirit of the Whole. ... If we try to find something difficult to
grasp, then we shall never grasp it, because we shall always think of It
as being incomprehensible. The mind which we discover within us is
the Mind that governs everything. This is the Thing Itself,
and we should recognize its simplicity."
- Ernest Holmes, The Science of Mind [Introductory Chapter
1 - The Thing Itself]
Jesus answered them, “I have shown you many good works from the
Father; for which of them are you going to stone me?” 33
They answered him, “It is not for a good work that we are going to
stone you but for blasphemy, because you, being a man, make yourself
God.” 34 Jesus answered them, “Is it
not written in your Law, ‘I said, you are gods’? 35
If he called them gods to whom the word of God came—and Scripture
cannot be broken— 36 do you say of him
whom the Father consecrated and sent into the world, ‘You are
blaspheming,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’? 37
If I am not doing the works of my Father, then do not believe me; 38
but if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works,
that you may know and understand that the Father is in me and I am in
to Jesus, John 10:32-38, The Holy Bible
This week we begin a review of the foundation principles of the
evolutionary science of mind and the related teachings of Jesus. In
his first introductory chapter, "The Thing Itself" ... to The
Science of Mind, the mystical Ernest Holmes, restates the words of the
radical Jesus referring to the divinity within each of us and also
restates the principle that is the foundation of the Law of Attraction;
"it is done unto you, as you believe." This
principle was stated by Jesus and also is stated in the Bhagavad-Gita
written centuries before the radical Jesus declared it as the action of
God in us, for us. For those who have been following this
ministry, this is not new. Most of us, accept this intellectually,
but have yet to discover the thundering impact within our consciousness
that this is the absolute truth for us. Our ability to use this
principle consciously is predicated by our recognition and
identification with it.
Every form of prayer begins first with
"recognition" ... without the recognition that there is a
Higher Power, there would be no impulse within us to pray. Yet,
how we recognize this Higher Power, G-d, is individual and personal to
each of us. The way in which G-d is defined has changed for most
of us. Isaiah revealed that G-d is Omnipresent ... everywhere
present ... and Omnipotent ... all power ... and Omniscient ... all
knowing [Intelligence]. Jesus revealed that we are a part of G-d;
part of this Power, Spirit and Intelligence. He stated that not
only were we One with G-d, but as we discover this power, spirit and
intelligence within us and "identify" with It ... we can
"use" this power, spirit and intelligence to draw into our
experience the abundant life. In our contemporary language we call
this using the Law of Attraction ... Jesus simply defined it as
"sowing and reaping" ... or "as" you believe, so it
is done unto you.
Now, many of you are probably thinking,
"okay, I know this already" ... and yes, we do know it.
But, are we realizing the "works" that go with "knowing
it" on the level that we desire? Are we healing, prospering
and blessing our self and others and receiving the results that we
desire? And if we are not, this "review" gives us the
opportunity to examine what we are "recognizing" and
"identifying" with. Can we say with absolute certainty,
"I believe in my prayer and the answer to it"? Are we
"believing" and "receiving" or is our
"receiving" falling short of our "believing"?
How do we define this "Power Greater
than we are" ... or this "Higher Power" ... or simply the
"Power" of G-d? We can't "identify with" and
"use" something that we can't define for ourselves.
Thinking about this word "Power" ... let us look at the story
of David and Goliath. If you are not familiar with the story,
Google it. In this story David was to go up against Goliath who
was a "giant of a man" ... far physically superior to David.
David did not look to G-d to make him physically superior to Goliath,
but instead looked to G-d for the right way [Intelligence] to defeat
Goliath with what he possessed. He defeated Goliath, not with
might, but with the conviction in his mind that G-d was for him.
This is "Power" but not always the way in which we define
Power in the world. To arrive at this measure of conviction, we
must "know" what we are "convinced" of.
All too often
many people believe that their prayers are not answered because they
lack the measure of faith necessary, but I believe we all have enough
faith, we just perhaps fail to "recognize" and
"identify" with the "power" of our faith.
Prayer is a powerful thing ... when we "recognize" and
"identify" that it is "The Thing Itself" ... it is
the expression of G-d through us.
SO IT IS!
