"There
is that within every individual which partakes of the nature of the
Universal Wholeness and - in so far as it operates - is God. That
is the meaning of the word Emmanuel, the meaning of the word Christ.
There is that within us which partakes of the nature of the Divine
Being, and since it partakes of the nature of the Divine Being, we
are divine. It reacts to us according to our belief in It; and
it is an immutable Law, subject to the use of the least among us; no
respecter of persons, It cannot be bound. Our Soul will never
change or violate its own nature; all the denying of it will never
change it; all the affirming of it will never make it more than it is.
But since it is what it is, and works in the way that it works, it
appears to each through his/her belief. It is done unto us as we
believe.”
– Dr. Ernest Holmes, The
Science of Mind, Introductory Chapter I
In this first introductory chapter of "The Science of
Mind," we find that "The Thing Itself" is something
familiar, but more. Most of us are familiar with the statement in
Bible scripture, "I can do all things through Christ which
strengthens me" yet we may have never identified this
"Christ" as within each of us ... that is, that G-d dwells
within us, not just in the man identified as Jesus, but all of us.
When we look at this profound statement in the Book of Isaiah, "I
am the Lord and besides me there is nothing" ... we can understand
more clearly that we are in G-d and of G-d, for G-d is Life Itself and
we are part of Life. Let's look at this in 1 Corinthians 3:16
"Do you not know that you are a temple
of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?"
And so we begin to gain a greater awareness of
what this Spirit of G-d is that dwells within us and how we partake of
Its Divine nature. The things of the Spirit being love, joy,
harmony, peace, happiness, strength, beauty and wisdom. And each
of us have the awareness that all of these things exist within us ...
within our consciousness. And no matter what circumstances or
conditions we may have experienced, all of these things continued to
exist within us, always available to us. And as Dr. Homes writes
in the science of mind, neither denying nor affirming will change this.
This is the Life of G-d seeking to express Itself "as us."
Imagine that each time we feel joy, feel love
or express love, and feel a sense of confidence ... that we are drawing
on the Spirit of G-d within us. And most importantly, every one of
us do this, and every one of us can express more of G-d's strength and
wisdom as well; strength being confidence and wisdom being intelligence.
We can rest assured that we can know all that we need to know and
confidently pursue our hopes and dreams. We can do this by
fostering not only a belief in G-d, but by believing and understanding
that we can partake of the Divine nature by choosing It above all
things.
From the Science of Mind: "We
see abundance in the Universe. We cannot count the grains of sand
on a single beach. The earth contains untold riches, and the very
air is vibrant with power. Why, then, is man weak, poor and
afraid? The Science of Mind deals with these questions. The
Divine Plan is one of Freedom; bondage is not God-ordained.
Freedom is the birthright of every living soul. All instinctively
feel this. The Truth points to freedom, under Law. Thus the
inherent nature of man is forever seeking to express itself in terms of
freedom. We do well to listen to this Inner Voice, for it tells us
of a life wonderful in its scope; of a love beyond our fondest dreams;
of a freedom which the soul craves."
This "Inner Voice" that Dr. Holmes
writes about is the Spirit of G-d that in-dwells us. It is It that
is seeking to express more through us ... more happiness, more joy, more
love, more ... more ... more ... because It knows that we have an
infinite capacity of all things to draw from. This is the Perfect
Love of G-d always seeking to give us every good thing imaginable.
And, Dr. Holmes writes: "But the great Love of the Universe
must be One with the great law of Its Own Being, and we approach Love
through the Law. This, then, is the teaching: Love and Law.
As the love of God is perfect, so the law of God also is perfect.
We must understand both."
And so we find that Love points the way by
bringing to our awareness that which holds an appeal to us ... something
that we may love to do, or even just the desire to love and be loved.
But, we must comply with the Law in order to realize the things and
experiences that we desire, with happiness, joy, peace and harmony.
This is what is meant in the scripture, Mark 8:36
"For what
shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his
own soul?" In other words, what good is it to gain something
and find no joy in it, no peace, or happiness?
As we study the Science
of Mind and the teachings of the Master Mind Jesus, we come into a
greater awareness of the relationship of Spirit and Soul. As we
open our mind to the Truth and let the Spirit within us be lifted up in
a greater awareness in our mind, we shall realize the power that is
available to us as our Soul or consciousness, is enlivened by the Power
of Love creating through us, as us, and for us, through our attunement
to Love and Law operating in, through, and around us, always.
AND
SO IT IS!
Keep
the faith!
