you don't find God in the next person you meet, it is a waste of time
looking for him further." - Mahatma
Dr. Holmes writes
in the Science of Mind that "Love is the self-giving-ness of Spirit
through the desire of Life to express Itself in terms of creation."
Emerson tells us that "Love is a synonym for God." We
are also told in the scriptures that "He that loveth not, knoweth
not God; for God is love." Dr. Holmes goes on to tell us that
"Love is free from condemnation, even as it is free from fear.
Love is a cosmic force whose sweep is irresistible."
On a practical level what this means for
us is that God seeks to "Self-express" through us. God
is Spirit and Spirit cannot paint a painting without our hands.
Spirit cannot play beautiful music without our willingness to let this
music come through us. In other words, our purpose is to be an
instrument for the "Self-expression" of God. But ... we
are not forced against our will to do this, for in the Infinite
Good-ness of God, we have been created as volitional beings ... we get
to choose the manner in which we "let" the Spirit
"Self-express" through us.
Each of us have had many ideas come to
us. Some we have acted on and others we have dismissed. The
same applies to our desires ... we have felt the desire to do or to have
things or experiences, and some we have acted on and others have simply
passed from our mind. Every idea and desire that has come to us,
originated in Spirit. Our awareness opened our mind to be
receptive to them ... even those ideas and desires that we have failed
to act on.
Many of us choose to experience something
greater in life than what we have experienced in the past, or are
currently experiencing. In order to do this, it is imperative that
we understand that the "greater ideas" must meet our
receptivity. And in order to develop a greater receptivity to
ideas that will prosper us and bring us success, our mind must be
cleared of anything unlike Good, or God. The Infinite cannot
"self-express" something greater through a mind that is not
free of condemnation and fear. Love and fear cannot dwell in the
same mental household. In order to eliminate fear and condemnation
from our mind, we must fill our mind with the Truth that Love is more
powerful than fear. And as we do this we begin to feel the power
inherent in this Truth and condemnation, especially self-condemnation,
In order to manifest more and more Good in our
life, we must embody more and more Love ... first. We begin by
loving our self ... and eliminate thoughts and ideas about our self that
self-depreciate the God within us ... our Higher Self. And as we
develop a healthy self-love, we begin to feel and experience a greater
love for God. Love of God means that we mentally and emotionally
are attracted to that which is of Love and Truth. Love is a force
of faith and unity with God. Fear and condemnation are faith in
the wrong things. Fear is a shadow in the mind that moves us into
depression and frustration. As we think and establish love, faith,
confidence and joy as a daily practice, our subconscious will magnify
these back to us in our experiences.
We must always keep in mind that both fear and
faith are thoughts ... and we can choose our thoughts at any time.
We don't fight fear or condemnation ... we simply think in a different
direction ... toward Love. Whenever we encounter anyone, we choose
to love or condemn ... and both become part of our thought patterns that
create imprints on our subconscious mind ... and both are magnified by
the subconscious. The subconscious does not choose ... it merely
accepts. Our choices are made in our conscious mind.
We can read in scripture,
"He that dwelleth in love, dwelleth in God, and God in him."
Let us not think about resentments, bitterness, condemnation or
forgiveness ... all of these are thoughts of the past. Let us fill
our minds with that which is of God ... that which is of our true Self
... the "self-expression" of God. Let us take the time
each day to remind ourselves that we are "God-expressed" ...
and let us take the time to contemplate the ideas and desires that come
to us ... knowing that God is seeking to "self-express" a
greater Good through us, as us and for us. And let us begin to
expand our contemplations to embody a greater Good each and every day.
AND SO IT IS!
