"The
Law of Life operates through your affirmation. Nothing can hinder
Its working but yourself. There is no more of It on the desert
than there is on the busiest street corner, and It will not respond any
more quickly because we go up into the temple. It is everywhere,
therefore It is where you are, and, most of all, It responds where you
recognize It. ... Would it be too much to say that your recognition of
It makes possible Its response through you? This, indeed, is the
secret of faith. Faith is the supreme affirmation. It is the
unconditioned affirmative. It is the affirmation which makes all
things possible to the one who believes in the Power of God."
- Ernest
Holmes, This Thing Called Life
The greatest awareness that Spirit is always Present in our lives
comes from knowing that our prayers are always answered. And I
don't mean answered by G-d, but through our very own consciousness that
knows that what we desire to have, to do, or to be, is ours precisely
the moment that we have accepted it as ours. G-d gives always, we
must learn to accept. This is illustrated in the Bible, Matthew
19:16-22, when a young man came to the Master Mind Jesus and asked what
he must do in order to follow (be like) him: 21Jesus
said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect (One with G-d), go and sell that
thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven
(Conscious Union with G-d): and come and follow me (do as I do).
22But
when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had
great possessions.
And for many of us, this story
repeats itself over and over. We worry that we can lose that which
we have, in our attempts to have more. And like the young man in
the parable, we haven't gained the realization, yet, that "All that
the Father (Source) hath is mine." In other words, we only
suffer lack by our unbelief, or lack of faith in the Infinite Good.
But, we have the ability to affirm this faith and realize the good
results that we desire to see made manifest in our lives. As Dr.
Holmes writes above, "our recognition of It makes possible Its
response through us." Each time we "recognize" ...
by "thinking" the thought of faith, our faith is increased ...
this is affirmation.
As our faith is in a G-d of unconditional love and
un-conditioned Power, G-d responds to our recognition of It. From
the Gospel of Luke 11:9-12 ... 9And
I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find;
knock, and it shall be opened unto you. 10For
every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him
that knocketh it shall be opened. 11If
a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a
stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?
12Or if
he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?
In these words the Master Metaphysician Jesus, was
stressing, over and over, that there is a Principle of Life that we can
absolutely depend on ... It is an Absolute Principle. The asking,
seeking, finding and knocking must be done in mind. We ask,
knowing that it is (affirmation), seek (contemplation) whatever it is
that we want within our very own consciousness, find (that which appeals
to us), and then knock (persistently affirm) on the door of our
consciousness, until it is revealed openly to us. It is up to us
to make the demand, to declare that which is ours. And as long as
we take nothing from someone else, or deny the same Good to someone
else, it is ours to have.
Now, all of this seems
very simple, and it is. But, we have thousands of thoughts each
day. Some of which support our affirmations and some which deny
them. It is up to us to be consistent and persistent in supporting
our affirmation ... to be firm in our conviction that "there is
Good for me and I can have it." As the great Norman Vincent
Peale wrote, "I can if I think I can." This, "I
can" affirms that the Power of G-d is working through us, as us,
and for us, as we choose to believe, to have faith, to affirm and to
know that It is. As Dr. Holmes writes, "affirmation makes all
things possible to the one who believes in the Power of God."
Ready, set, KNOW ... that the Good we affirm is ours now for we are
depending on that which is Absolute in responding to us.
AND
SO IT IS!
Keep
the faith!
