The Way to a Wonderful Life Message for May 7, 2017

One of the most profound truths we will read in the Holy Books; the Bible, the Torah, the Bhagavad-Gita and more … is that our Creator has given us “volition” … that is, the ability to “CHOOSE.”  We have a choice in all things that concern us.  We don’t get to choose for others … and even if we or they live under the illusion that we can that is never true.  And I don’t think I need to explain that any further.

This “volition” or ability to choose is “sacred” … and so our choices or decisions must always be made with wisdom.  And wisdom will always contemplate the consequences of our choices.  Our choices may be complex or they may be simple … but they all begin with “thoughts” … what are we thinking?  Are we thinking with wisdom or recklessly?  How much of our thinking is based on truth and how much is based on false ideas and perceptions?  Someone wrote that our perceptions are more important than truth … this could not be more wrong or more foolish.  If we allow our mind to dwell on perceptions rather than the truth we are like the blind leading the blind … but we are leading with our own foolishness and the consequences of such thinking can be very uncomfortable for us!

The American Mystic Ernest Holmes wrote:  Since the Universal Law which automatically receives our thoughts is always acting and never at rest, when we have chronic, habitual negative thoughts, we perpetuate experiences that we no longer want to have. What is needed, then, is a new outlook on the situation, a broader vision, a deeper realization. We need not be able to create this new perspective on the spot… we need only to be open to the possibility that one exists.  And of course one does.  In fact, the Spirit that Knows All Things has unlimited outcomes, all of which have already outwitted your greatest conundrum a thousand-fold.
The key, then, to success and happiness, is the conscious control of ongoing thought patterns and a continuous emission of constructive thinking and acting. This key will unlock the treasure house of the Infinite and reveal to us undreamed-of opportunities and experiences.
Because we are of the One Mind, any vision you can conjure of an outcome which is based in harmony and unity is already complete in the mind of Spirit.  It is Divinely ordained.”

I love the words “Divinely ordained” and I know that Ernest Holmes is simply telling us that when our mind is in tune with the Infinite, that is, expressing the nature of the Divine … then our good is guaranteed.

From the great Unity teacher and author Eric Butterworth: "How do we stop thinking the wrong thoughts that create bad habits? By a "law of substitution": by putting another thought in its place. You can eliminate the bad thought by holding, in consciousness, the good one. An affirmation of Truth, for instance, is an effective "thought capsule." It is important to be still for a while and realize that you are the expression of the Infinite, right where you are, and that there is movement within you toward good, toward creativity, toward strength. Perhaps, you would like to verbalize it through an affirmation or a treatment, like this: "I am a strong, decisive, confident Child [expression] of God. I am not dependent upon this thing for security. My faith is in God within me." Say that again, "I am a strong, decisive, confident Child [expression] of God. I am not dependent upon this thing for security. My faith is in God within me," and you will come to realize that there is a Power-whether you call it "the Christ," as Paul did, or you call it "God," call it "Providence," call it "Nature," call it the "Transcendent Force," call it the "Creative Process." It really doesn't matter! It is the Power within you that can aid and guide you and pull you through any difficult times of overcoming.
Every one of us can become a person of power or a person of impotence. We have a choice! Once you have grasped the knowledge that you can overcome, then tell yourself, and often, that you can do it and that you will do it-not with some gimmick, but because there is within you an Innate Power making you strong and capable and confident. Determine to be yourself, and you can overcome alcoholism or drug addiction; you can lose weight; you can become punctual; you can stop procrastinating; you can alter the negative patterns of your life. If you really want to, you can be the kind of person that you really, inherently, were meant to be!

Both Ernest Holmes and Eric Butterworth inspire us with the truth about us ... our mind is powerful once we loose the limitations that mankind has perpetuated.  I often think of the words of the Master Mind Jesus:  "You are the light of the world and let your light so shine!"  This "light" is the Intelligence, Power and Spirit of G-d moving through our mind, our heart and our soul.  Are we letting the light shine freely through us or are we "filtering" it to reflect the limitations that have been handed down to us?  This is one of the most important questions we must ask ourselves.

Let me end this message with this affirmation, choose to impress it on your mind: "I am not afraid to be amazing!"

And so it is!
