“1
Corinthians 13:13 But now abideth faith, hope, love, these three;
and the greatest of these is love.”
- The
Holy Bible - "Love is the self-givingness of
the Spirit through the desire of Life to express Itself in terms of
creation. ... Love is a cosmic force whose sweep is irresistible."
- The Science of Mind
In "The
Science of Mind" Dr. Holmes cautions us not to think of God as just
Principle ... but to realize that there is a warmth and color to Spirit
that permeates all things. When we pray or speak our treatments,
the more love we feel for the things that we pray for, the more grace we
will experience as our prayers and treatments demonstrate in our
experience. Love is powerful ... patient and kind ... and each of
these attributes of Spiritual Love is very important for us to recognize
as we seek to experience more of God ... more of the Good.
When we turn from illness and affirm Health, we
can realize that the Love of Spirit desires for us to demonstrate
Health. When we feel frustrated with our financial condition and
turn from this frustration and instead realize that the Love of Spirit
has given us the desire to experience financial increase, we can know
that the way will open for us to experience the increase. It is
this Love of God that gives us the Good desires that enter our minds ...
and it is the Love of God that moves through Law to bring forth our Good
as It works through our faith, hope .. and love. It is Love that
agrees with us when we seek the Good ... and it is Love within us that
springs forth in our mind as faith and hope. As Dr. Holmes writes,
"Love is the self-givingness of the Spirit through the desire of
Life to express Itself in terms of creation." Our desires to
create more Good in our experience is God seeking to express this Good.
"Love is patient, love is kind" ...
and in these words we realize that we do not have to fight or resist
that which appears to obstruct our Good. As we wait for the
unfoldment of our Good, we can wait patiently knowing that the Presence
of Love works silently and powerfully to perfect the Good that is ours.
Patient persistence in our desire to experience our specific Good gives
our consciousness a definite direction in which to work. Whatever
it is that we choose to experience, we want to experience it with peace
of mind, joy, and happiness ... and Love brings these qualities into our
demonstrations. There would be little satisfaction in
demonstrating financial increase if we were afraid of losing what we had
gained ... but Love gives us the peace of mind so that we can enjoy our
Good and increase it to a greater measure even still.
This past week in California the State Supreme
Court overturned a ban on same-sex marriage. Mayor Gavin Newsom of
San Francisco led the movement to bring this decision about. What
struck me as the most interesting about the Court decision, was not so
much the decision itself, but the reasoning for the decision. Keep
in mind that this is a very conservative Court. The Court said:
"In contrast to
earlier times, our state now recognizes that an individual's capacity to
establish loving and long-term committed relationship with another
person and responsibly to care for and raise children does not depend
upon the individual's sexual orientation, and more generally, that an
individual's sexual orientation - like a person's race or gender - does
not constitute a legitimate basis upon which to deny or withhold legal
rights."
The California Supreme Court decision compared
same-sex marriage to interracial marriage. It was not until 1967
that the United States Supreme Court overturned individual state's bans
on interracial marriage. "Love is patient and kind" ...
that case too was hard fought by both political and religious factions
who were against it.
I received a message declaring that "I am
so sick of these liberal activist judges creating law" ... but the
truth is, these were not "liberal activist" judges but are
conservative judges. And to me, this is even greater evidence that
this is a "decision whose time has come." "Divine
Love" was at work here ... there is no doubt in my mind about this.
The Court's decision was filled with the Power of Love ... it was not
merely a statement of law ... but in the Court's written decision, there
was compassion, empathy, and understanding ... all of these are from the
Power of Love within. Those who are motivated the the love of
power ... seldom connect with the Power of Love that was at work in this
decision.
As
each of us contemplate Love's part in the Good that we seek ... and
understand that everything Good that we can imagine for ourselves, Love
wants us to have ... our prayers, spiritual treatments, affirmations ...
take on the warmth and color of Love ... working through Law ... to
bring forth our Good through our faith, hope ... and loving patience and
kindness ... and we too, will experience the Power of Love Triumphant!
AND
SO IT IS!
Keep
the faith!
