"When I was 17, I read a quote that went
something like: "If you live each day as if it was your last,
someday you'll most certainly be right." It made an impression on
me, and since then, for the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror
every morning and asked myself: "If today were the last day of my
life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?" And whenever
the answer has been "No" for too many days in a row, I know I
need to change something." - Steve Jobs, CEO Apple Computer
Most of us are familiar with
the phrase, "follow your heart," and like most subjective
statements it can be used to our benefit or to our distress. There
are many people who "follow their heart" who never
"receive" their "heart's desires" ... and this can
bring a great deal of sadness and distress into their life experience.
And yet, there are many who "follow their heart" without
understanding that Spirit has given us "liberty" but not
"license." It is important that we follow our hearts ...
but, we cannot throw wisdom to the wind and expect a good outcome.
The key is to understand what the
"heart" represents spiritually. In metaphysics, the
heart represents the "sub-conscious mind." And this can
be the "root" of the problems many face when following their
hearts. From Dr. Joseph Murphy's, "The Power of Your
Subconscious Mind" ... "Remember your
subconscious mind does not engage in proving whether your thoughts are
good or bad, true or false. It responds according to the nature of
your thoughts or suggestions. For example, if you consciously
assume that something is true, even though it may be false, your
subconscious mind will accept it as true and proceed to bring about
results that must necessarily follow because you consciously assumed it
to be true."
Most of us are aware of the power of the
subconscious ... what is "impressed" in the subconscious is
expressed in our life experience. As we have knowledge of the
subconscious we can examine the things that are "attractive
to our heart" ... in the light of intelligence. If we
impress upon our subconscious that which is not true, we can only
experience confusion. A good example of impressing the
subconscious without wisdom is to direct the subconscious to manifest a
home that is our heart's desire ... but to neglect to direct the
subconscious to manifest the income or revenue to pay the mortgage.
My purpose here is not to discourage anyone
from following their heart. In fact, I believe that it is
absolutely important that we do so. And as we learned from the
statements by Steve Jobs, we can easily become aware of when we are not
following our heart. Few things in life are more miserable than
doing things when our "heart is not in it" ... and when this
happens, it is the Universe calling us to accept change in our lives.
Whether this concerns our work, our lifestyle or our intimate
relationships ... when we are "heart-sick" at the thought of
continuing in the same unsatisfactory experience ... it is time to
"effect" change in our lives. And this can only be done
by using our mind as well as our heart.
As we continue to develop our consciousness and
depend on God and God alone ... and work with It according to Its
nature, Absolute ... we will find that prosperity and success in all
things begin to manifest in our lives. There is plenty in the
Universe for everyone ... we must just learn to align ourselves with Its
abundance ... and then the ideas and guidance to attract our success and
prosperity will follow. But ... we must align our hearts with
Intelligence. Dr. Murphy gives us insight into how the
subconscious works ... we can believe in that which is false and untrue
... but then our demonstrations will reflect this falsity and confusion.
We must listen to our hearts as
we make our choices and decisions about our lives. It doesn't
benefit anyone to amass money if it brings them little or no happiness.
Success is never sweet when it is devoid of a feeling of accomplishment.
Our heart is the seat of our subconscious mind ... let us work with our
mind and hearts together and direct our subconscious to follow our
hearts intelligently and on purpose for the Good of all.
AND
SO IT IS!
Keep
the faith!
