and it will be given to you; good measure, crushed down, full and
running over, they will give to you. For in the same measure as you
give, it will be given to you again." -
attributed to the Master Mind Jesus, Luke 6:38, Holy Bible
The first principle of prosperity is to give
from a generous thought, for a generous thought is filled with strength
and vitality. What we give is not as important as our thoughts
about giving. If we give of our skills and talents only because we
believe we are earning a paycheck, then we shall limit ourselves to a
paycheck and not much else. If we tithe to our church or our
source of spiritual support out of obligation, our tithe will do little
more than satisfy our sense of fulfilling our obligation. As we
give from a generous thought, or impulse, we realize that we give for we
first have received. We are allowing Spirit to give through us
that which It has given us to give.
Imagine for a moment that the work that we do
is not for our employer but for the Universe. And the more we give
the more we receive and the more we receive the more we give. The
Universe is not limited in its ability to compensate us. And yes,
part of this compensation will come through the form of an employer or
someone else who is part of our demonstration of prosperity. But,
our compensation is only limited by the extent of our belief that it is
limited. And we limit our compensation by believing that our
compensation can only come to us in "expected" ways ... we
lose sight of the fact that there is both a material and an invisible
aspect to everything in life. In the Invisible, or Spiritual,
there is a law of unity that cannot be obstructed except through our
belief. This means that for every action there is an automatic
reaction ... in other words, every act of giving from a generous thought
automatically creates an opportunity for receiving. This is an
As a culture we have been taught that we
receive our compensation in limited ways. And unconsciously many
people only work to the level that they feel is required for the
compensation they receive for the work. This puts us in a rut.
It is interesting to note that many people who win at the lotteries, do
not quit their jobs. And the reason for this is that they enjoy
the giving of their skills and talents, and most likely are very
generous in the giving of them. And yet, they believed in the
possibility of greater riches than what their employment gave them.
How do we know this? ... because they won the lottery ... there are no
accidents in the Universe ... only consciousness unfolding. In
Wallace D. Wattles 1910 classic, "The Science of Getting
Rich," he instructs us to do everything that we do successfully.
In other words be conscious of what we are doing or giving. Anyone
can work ... but not everyone seeks success in all that they do.
To complete our work successfully means that we must be generous in the
giving of our skills and talents ... and not merely just get the work
"A selfish thought contains the germs of
dissolution; it will disintegrate and pass away", writes
Charles Haanel in "The Master Key System." Selfish
thinking means to "withhold" ... to be ungenerous. To be
ungenerous means we are believing in limitation ... that we are
believing that as we give ... we have less ... and this false belief
will show up in our life as lack or limitation in some form. We
are always called to give in some way or another ... for it is the
nature of God to give ... and since we are of God and in God, this is
our nature as well. To withhold is to obstruct the Divine flow.
We must trust in our impulses to give ... and give generously, no matter
what we are giving. It is essential for our great success.
I will always
remember and never forget listening to Dr. O. C. Smith declare that we
cannot "out-give" the Universe" .. it will always give us
more than we give into it. Dr. O. C. Smith demonstrated this
principle clearly for all to see. His belief in the generous
thought kept him enthusiastic and excited about his life and the lives
of those around him. He always gave generously ... knowing that
the only way in which he could, was that God had given to him first!
And in knowing this, his success was assured.
SO IT IS!
