The Way to a Wonderful Life Message for July 23, 2017

Our mind receives so much information every day yet so little of what is coming to our awareness makes any great impression upon our consciousness.  But, it is those things that make the impressions on our consciousness that provides us with guidance, direction, ideas and inspiration.  I purchased Dr. Norman Vincent Peale's book, "You Can If You Think You Can" and did not read it or any part of it for years.  However, I kept the book where I could read the title easily and I would say to myself "I can if I think I can" and personalized this powerful title to myself and created an impression on my consciousness that this is the truth for me and for everyone who realizes that it is up to us to choose what we believe.

In his book he writes about a teacher, George Reeves, who used this same power of words and conscious choice with his students.  Simply he taught using the chalkboard, "Knock the T off the Can't" you leave the word "CAN" standing out clear and strong.  "Let that be a lesson to you," he would say, dusting the chalk off his fingers.  "You are meant to grow up into strong, competent people believing in yourselves, in your country and in God.  You are not designed to be little weak pygmies.  You are to develop into real men and women, and I'm telling you that you can make something of yourselves.  And to do that, never forget this principle of successful achievement:  "You can if you think you can."

I often wonder how many of my and others choices are made based on what we "know to be true" rather than what we have been "told is true" about so many things that affect our lives; our health, our wealth, our relationships and even our faith.  We are all bombarded each day with a myriad of information that can either inspire or diminish the inherent power of choice within our consciousness.  Often, people will say they believe something even though there is no foundation of truth to what they think they believe.  They follow the words and beliefs of others rather than seek out the truth of what it is they are accepting as true.  This is especially apparent regarding people's religious and political choices.  And this apparently has been true for thousands of years as we can surmise from the statement of the Master Mind Jesus that we are to "be in the world but not of the world."  In other words, we must at some point realize that the Collective Consciousness is rife with false ideas and beliefs that create openings for poverty, disease and unhappiness to be experienced in our lives and the lives of others.  How do we know this?  We know it because these things exist as facts in the world in which we live.  Our awareness, however, is that facts change the truth does not and so we can realize our protection against all that seeks to diminish our quality of life is our conscious choice to believe in the good and the truth that the good shall always be revealed.

"I can if I think I can" live my life with health, and happiness, and peace, and an abundance of all things good.  I can reject, beginning right now, right where I am, anything that does not conform to the nature of G-d Intelligence, Power and Spirit within me which insures my good shall be realized.  I can.  You can.  We all can.

And so it is!

Rev. Henry Bates
