"At another time he
(Jesus) gave them this to ponder on: "Is it not written in
your law, I have said ye are God's, and all of you are children of the
Most High?" "Though ye believe not me, believe the
works, that ye may know and believe that the Father is in me, and I in
Him." Yet man will make a bold statement for everything
except this: his divine heirship. Why should it be so?
Because, man has not said like the Master when tempted, "Get thee
behind me, Satan; Thou art an offense to me, for thou savorest not the
things that be of God, but those that be of men." -
Isidora H. Minard, "Prove Me Now" (1903)
The Pew Forum On
Religion & Public Life reports: "The number of Americans who do
not identify with any religion continues to grow at a rapid pace.
One-fifth of the U.S. public – and a third of adults under 30 – are
religiously unaffiliated today, the highest percentages ever in Pew
Research Center polling. ... In the last five years alone, the
unaffiliated have increased from just over 15% to just under 20% of all
U.S. adults. Their ranks now include more than 13 million self-described
atheists and agnostics (nearly 6% of the U.S. public), as well as nearly
33 million people who say they have no particular religious affiliation
(14%)." Far too many people see a belief in G-d and religion
as synonymous. When I have gotten into discussions with atheists
and agnostics I find that their concept of G-d that they reject so
firmly is the god of religious dogma pretty much created in the image of
man; which pits religion against science and is more focused on who and
what they are against rather than teaching people to live a blessed life
in the spirit of livingness, forgivingness and givingness. Too
many churches, especially Evangelical, are more like political
organizations than spiritual sanctuaries. But, this was not the
Father-Spirit that Jesus believed in and loved. Rarely do I meet
anyone who doesn't believe that there is an Intelligence behind all that
we see ... they may not see this Intelligence as G-d ... but Jesus did.
It is intelligent to believe that "faith is a
power" and through faith we connect with Something greater
than anything that we can see with our human eyes, Intelligence.
An Intelligence that has created through man the means of communicating
via voice and the written word (Internet, Smart phones, Cable tv) the
ability to close the gap of separation from each other. We can
feel the spirit of revolution taking place in the Middle East, the joy
of the birth of a new Prince in England and "friend" people
that only a few decades ago we would never have known.
People are amazed when they are told that there
are 41,000 Christian sects throughout the world ... a few years ago
there were 38,000. And this is amazing when we come to realize
that the Master Mind Jesus' teachings were so simple and
straight-forward. How can there possibly be so many variations to
what he was teaching? Part of the answer to this is cultural but
the biggest reason is that the religion that professes to "follow
Jesus" has followed religion instead and has changed and
rearranged the teachings that came after Jesus to meet their own
"interpretations." Jesus' teachings were simple, but not
easy. He said we must have more faith in G-d than we do in the
things of the world. He told us to "be
in the world but not of the world" and this sets us up
to reject so much of what we see in the world. Something that few
people are willing to do. As a people we want
"fellowship" ... we want to be accepted and liked by others
... we want to "fit in." This is why those who follow
Jesus don't have to be Christians and why some Christians don't follow
But "fellowship" has its price when
we forsake Truth for it and allow ourselves to let others feed our
consciousness false ideas and fairy tales about our relationship to G-d
and Jesus. With the best of intentions too many people are taught
that there is a "God out there" and a reward in a Heaven and a
punishment in Hell. Neither of which the highly enlightened and
intelligent Jesus believed to be true. This is what Isidora Minard
realized and gave to us to think about all the way back to 1903: "Neither
shall they say: 'Lo here! or, lo there! for behold the kingdom of
God is within you." From this statement, given by Jesus, we
know that Heaven is a state of consciousness. Heaven is not any
specific realm, but Heaven is a harmonious state of mind, reached only
through acknowledging God in all our ways or living in at-one-ment with
Love and Truth, having all our actions as well as our speech in accord
with the "Word." Consequently, "Hell" which is
supposedly the opposite of Heaven, is a state of unrest or discord.
The word "hell" originally meant covered, concealed, or walled
in, and does not contain an idea of a place of everlasting
The Master Mind Jesus' teachings
opens a window to our soul. It is up to us to "discover"
the Truth that he was teaching us. Our "discovery"
begins by "following Jesus" to "be
still and know that I am G-d" something written in the 3rd
and 4th centuries (approx) before him: "When
thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut the door,
pray to thy Father which is in secret, and thy Father which seeth in
secret shall reward thee openly." Jesus not only
taught this but demonstrated its benefits for all to see. He knew
that we have that within us that can connect in definite ways with the
Infinite as we still our mind and close out the false truths and
illusions of the world. This Intelligence that he referred to as
Father, he also told us was a "Spirit" ... "Mind"
... but more than that, It is "All-Knowing Mind" which is
illustrated in these words regarding prayer: "Before
they call I will answer, and while they are yet speaking I will
hear." And, "Father, I
thank thee that thou hast heard me, and I know that thou hearest me
The Master Mind Jesus opened a window to our
soul, but he cannot convince us that what he taught was the Truth.
Truth known is truth demonstrated and the only way we will ever truly
"know G-d" is to "experience" that much of G-d that
we know. We cannot "know G-d" from
the words of others, either spoken or written. It would be
foolishness to believe that we can. We will discover that we
"know G-d" in the realm of G-d's Spirit, in the stillness of
our own mind ... just as Jesus and the Psalmist did before us.
This we must do for ourselves ... it is the most important thing we will
SO IT IS!
