if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who
looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. 24For
he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. 25But
the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and
perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be
blessed in his doing.” - The Epistle Of James [James 1], Holy
As a child growing up on a
farm in Missouri, I would look forward to the County Fair as the ending
of a summer of hard work and isolation from most of the outside world.
The expectations of this annual event would fill my mind with a sense of
enthusiasm for weeks in advance of the Fair. The people who
arrived in the county to set up the Ferris wheel, the merry-go-rounds
and the different booths that offered prizes for throwing, dunking, etc.
often were gypsies who had personalities that were as foreign to Paris,
Missouri as the Eiffel Tower. But, no matter what happened at the
fair, the sense of doing something different and interacting with
different people gave me a sense of the world being bigger and more
exciting than the world in which I lived. It is this sense of
enthusiasm and excitement that I have continued to seek throughout my
life. It is in this spirit of enthusiasm, I believe, that most of
us desire to experience in our lives.
In metaphysics there is a statement,
"change your thinking and change your life," but in reality
everything is always changing, we are just not always conscious that
this is so. Change then, is not only the truth for us, but it is a
mandatory requirement that we be conscious of it, to avoid depression
and all the ills that follow it. We cannot change the conditions
in which we live without changing our consciousness and we cannot change
our consciousness without changing our beliefs, thoughts, and actions.
This is a truth that was revealed thousands of years ago as we can read
from the Epistle of James in the ancient scriptures. James was
warning the people not to let inaction dull their sense of being alive
and being an active participant of Life.
Wallace D. Wattles in his book, "The
Science of Getting Rich" tells us to develop an "advancing
mind." He further writes that, "There is no such thing
possible in this universe as a lack of opportunities for a person who is
living the advancing life." In this we must be conscious of
change, conscious of what we are doing, conscious of what we are doing
successfully, conscious of a universe filled with opportunities and
possibilities for advancement and an increase of the good. No
matter what we may experience, we must not allow ourselves to admit to
failure or disappointment for these carry with them an energy that
negates our faith and confidence. As we have chosen what it is
that we desire to accomplish and act accordingly in all that we do, we
shall find that whatever it is that appears to be a failure is just the
selective process of our consciousness rejecting that which is not for
us. Our ability to discern consciously what is truth and what is
not gives us the ability to continue along the line of advancement to
that goal that we have set for ourselves. We must always think
from the assumption that Spirit always knows what is for our greater
good and that Spirit will never fail us. As we keep faith with
ourselves, we will find that there is a greater ease in keeping faith
with the Spirit that indwells us.
We shall find the Spirit within our soul
as we speak the words of affirmation and live to the words that we
speak. The Spirit guides us through consciousness and the words we
speak reveal our consciousness. When we lose control of our words,
we lose control of our lives for both are effects of consciousness
unfolding. For some of us, this has been a great challenge, but we
have put that behind us as we move forward with our developed
consciousness of knowing and accepting that the Intelligence that
created us, must be revealed by us, from within. As we go beyond
religion and free our mind of ideas that bind us to the possibility of
negativity, we can allow ourselves to get a sense of being free in the
Spirit from obstructions and compromise.
From Dr. Frank Richelieu, "The Art Of
Being Yourself": "The kingdom
of heaven, of expanded awareness, is within you. The kingdom of
freedom is within you. Life is ever unfolding and ever-growing,
but we hold ourselves prisoners to our own thoughts, fears, habits and
weaknesses. As long as we are our own jailers, we can not
Say to yourself:
"I no longer imprison myself.
I look within to the creative life that is mine. I know creative
Intelligence keeps the whole universe operating in harmony and in
perfect law and order. I recognize that creative Intelligence
knows what to do, how to do it and when to do it. I feel my
oneness with the Power, which is the only power there is. There is
no other. I therefore give no power to things and situations.
I unify with Spirit and my life operates as the universe does, in
perfect law and order."
In the Book of Genesis, the first Book in the
Holy Bible and the Torah, we can read that we are created in the image
of G-d ... Spirit, Life and Truth ... this Truth is Intelligence ... and
we must relate to the Life and the Spirit within us, intelligently, for
all these are in unity. Let us find the
Spirit in our soul, our consciousness, and let us be conscious of the
truth that we are always advancing towards a greater and more marvelous
life experience, right now, right where we are.
SO IT IS!
