"A wise man will extend this lesson to all parts of life, and know that it is the part of prudence to face every claimant, and pay every just demand on your time, your talents, or your heart. Always pay; for, first or last, you must pay your entire debt. Persons and events may stand for a time between you and justice, but it is only a postponement. You must pay at last your own debt. If you are wise, you will dread a prosperity which only loads you with more. Benefit is the end of nature. But for every benefit which you receive, a tax is levied. He is great who confers the most benefits. He is base — and that is the one base thing in the universe — to receive favors and render none. In the order of nature we cannot render benefits to those from whom we receive them, or only seldom. But the benefit we receive must be rendered again, line for line, deed for deed, cent for cent, to somebody. Beware of too much good staying in your hand. It will fast corrupt and worm worms. Pay it away quickly in some sort." - Ralph Waldo Emerson, Essay on Compensation

Emerson was so ahead of his time in understanding the science of universal spiritual law as was William Blake before him.  It is the science of cause and effect, or sowing and reaping as the Master Mind Jesus discovered and defined it that works through all living things.  Science has proven that even plants react to the noise around them, especially words.  And so we know that Intelligence permeates everything and everyone, but mankind has been given a greater level of awareness to be "conscious" of this Intelligence which has been used to foster good and also to establish destructiveness.  Religion has had centuries to reach the conclusions of the great minds of the ages, including the Master Mind Jesus, but has persisted into hanging onto the "traditions" that the great minds have denounced as false-truths and idols of man's infancy.  Whatever we believe that contradicts the science of nature and Spirit, will diminish us in some way.

This Intelligence can work through us to create greater prosperity in our lives, but we must follow the pattern it has given us.  And we do this by understanding the nature of It.  It's nature is "use" ... which is why Emerson tells us to "beware of too much good staying in your hand."  Everything that we have received or will receive is for us to "use" ... and this follows the statement attributed to Jesus that "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal" ... in other words, have the faith to "give and be given to" freely and with confidence in the nature of the spiritual law of circulation.

We must foster confidence in our ability to use our money with wisdom.  The confidence to invest in the right stocks, savings certificates, etc. that will not only prosper us but prosper those that benefit from these investments.  The wisdom to use our money to create prosperity for ourselves and others should always be affirmed in our mind daily.  Most importantly, we must consistently be "conscious" of what we are using our money for and why we are giving it so that we are "consciously" drawing more money to us to use.  Some people are so afraid of making their own decisions about money that they rely on others to tell them how to use it and to invest it.  This shadow of fear that lingers over their money will only limit them and their ability to grasp the principle of abundance.  We can read in Proverbs 11:24-25 .. "One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want. Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered."  Every time we make a purchase of goods or services, multiple numbers of people are prospered ... I have stated this before, and it is important that we are conscious of this if we desire to receive an increase in financial prosperity.  It is spiritual law and science that everything reproduces after its own kind.

I am reminded that Dr. Robert Bitzer (Collected Essays), founder of the Hollywood Church, stated that "use-ness" must be cultivated in our mind in order for us to prosper abundantly.  We must not affirm that we have money but that we have that which we desire to "use" and the money will show up for us to have it.  Everything is for our use, and everything is good in its own unique way.  There is enough and more for everyone but not everyone believes they can have enough and therefore they do not think of "use" but of lack and limitation.  From Charles Fillmore's "Prosperity" we can read:  "The mind of man is like the net catching every kind of idea, and it is man's privilege and duty under the divine law to separate those that are good from those which are
not good. In this process the currents of unselfish, spiritual love flowing through the soul act as great eliminators, freeing the consciousness of thoughts of hate,
lack, and poverty, and giving the substance of Spirit free access into the consciousness and affairs."

Ideas create a correspondent in spiritual law ... ideas that foster a desire for "use" bring forth the answered prayer or demonstration of the idea into the physical realm of our experience.  This is why so many teachers in the early years of spiritual science philosophies taught that we are to focus on ideas with our affirmations, imagination and thoughts.  The level of our attraction to an idea or what some might consider a desire, will determine our ability to sustain the idea or desire in mind as complete and realized.

Self-reliance was not a new idea when Emerson wrote his famous essay, but the level of self-reliance is ever-expanding and so we must never allow ourselves to falter in our quest to be more and more self-reliant.  Our willingness to be self-reliant allows the Christ within us to more fully express through us as power, as guidance, as wisdom and intelligence ... all manifesting as prosperous living.  Emerson writes:  "So use all that is called Fortune. Most men gamble with her, and gain all, and lose all, as her wheel rolls. But do thou leave as unlawful these winnings, and deal with Cause and Effect, the chancellors of God. In the Will work and acquire, and thou hast chained the wheel of Chance, and shalt sit hereafter out of fear from her rotations. A political victory, a rise of rents, the recovery of your sick, or the return of your absent friend, or some other favorable event, raises your spirits, and you think good days are preparing for you. Do not believe it. Nothing can bring you peace but yourself. Nothing can bring you peace but the triumph of principles."  It is through the triumph of principles that G-d Intelligence prospers us all.

Keep the faith!
