"The Art Of Being Yourself"
The Way to a Wonderful Life Message for October 1, 2017
have always thought of dreams as part of our divine
imagination. We can't always understand our nighttime dreams
but the dreams that we consciously hold in our mind can have great
significance for us. “Every
great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within
you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the
stars to change the world.” These words
from Harriet Tubman have inspired so many and reinforce for us the
truth that all begins in mind and all begins with a choice.
Dreams become goals and goals become reality when we make the right
choices and reinforce these choices with persistence.
This morning I was reading about O. J. Simpson's release from prison
after nine years. At one time his life was one that many young
people dream of. He had gained fame and fortune as a football
running back. He was inducted into the College Football Hall
of Fame in 1983 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1985.
After retiring from football, he began new careers in acting and
football broadcasting. His was a life that inspired dreams in
others. But, his life took a downward spiral in 1994 when he
was arrested and charged with the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson
and Ron Goldman. His trial was publicized internationally
which reflected his impact on the world. He was
acquitted. But, his life would never be the same. In
2007 he was arrested in Las Vegas for armed robbery and
kidnapping. He served nine years in prison and was released at
12:05 a.m. on October 1, 2017. The dream life he once
experienced had turned into a nightmare; a living one. At 70
years of age, Mr. Simpson now has the opportunity for a new
beginning. Only time, and Mr. Simpson's choices and dreams
will tell us how this new beginning will unfold.
Many of us have had a life of ups and downs. Perhaps not as
dramatic or as exciting as those of O. J. Simpson, but we have had
our disappointments and challenges; our successes and our
accomplishments. How much these life events have benefited us
has been determined by what Harriet Tubman describes as our inner
strength, patience and passion and our ability to turn within and
draw from these attributes of the Spirit inherent within every
living being. I love this quote from Steven Spielberg: "I
don't dream at night, I dream all day; I dream for a living."
Many people will never understand those who dream big because they
are too busy judging them based on what they can see with their
human eyes. Those who dream bigger are seeing their lives with
spiritual vision and this no one can see but themselves and the
Spirit that is with them always.
And so it is!
