The Way to a Wonderful Life Message for November 13, 2016

How many times have we heard someone say "I believe" and realized that what they say they believe has no basis in fact or truth?  Many people live their lives believing things that not only are not true but these beliefs held in mind have the potential to "cause" the person to be diminished in health, happiness, success, prosperity and more.  Of all the things we may believe in, the most important is to believe in ourselves.  Dr. Norman Vincent Peale wrote:  "Believe in yourself!  Have faith in your abilities!  Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy."  A belief in ourselves is one of the most mentally healthy thing we can believe in.  Without this non-arrogant, non-ego-driven belief in ourselves achievement or a feeling of accomplishment will be absent in our mind and in our life.

Amid all of the emotional, factual and non-factual responses to this latest election of President in the United States a minister posted on Facebook:  "God is in charge of America" ... now that is a scary thought because G-d can only give us what we believe to be true for us and right now that is a fairly chaotic fact.  This statement came from a "belief" in a man-made god that favors one over the other and holds a greater love for one particular country over all others.  The truth is that those who hold these types of beliefs in their minds in regards to our relationship to G-d is that the Universe itself shows just how wrong they are.  G-d is first Intelligence; infinite intelligence beyond the capacity of man's individual mind to conceive.  And this Intelligence is universal in physical, mental and spiritual laws.  We use these laws every day whether we are conscious of it or not and the most important on an individual level is that we get what we believe to be true for us ... even if that which we believe to be true is something that will destroy us.  Consider this idea from the Course in Miracles:  "Consciousness is the state that induces action, though it does not inspire it. You are free to believe what you choose, and what you do attests to what you believe."

Religion clings to a man-made god and even to a man-made Jesus, Buddha and Krishna.  The Jesus, Buddha and Krishna personas have been characterized by differing perceptions throughout history.  Even during the early years of Christianity Jesus' brother and the leaders of the early churches were in dispute about the way in which Jesus' teachings were to be presented; the church leaders saw him as a martyr, a sacrificed lamb, but his brother was aghast at the thought of it.  And these differing perceptions have shaped the world in which we live to a great degree.

Let us think about these words from Phineas Parkhurst Quimby that go beyond the false beliefs of the world:
"Man has invented a God according to his belief so that God is the embodiment of man's belief. As man's belief changes, so his God changes, but the true God never changes. So the wisdom of man condensed into a being called God is set up for the ignorant to worship, and as all men have been made to acknowledge what they have no proof of, the idea of a personal God is believed in, so that no one questions the identity of such a being. This God was made up of the wisdom of the heathen world and we have reverenced and worshipped it not from love but from fear. Its only opponent is science, so as science enters, this God gives way but not without a struggle. The true God is not acknowledged by this, man's God, but it is in the hearts of the people, working like yeast till it affects the whole lump."

It is up to us to go beyond our beliefs to the truth.  When the Master Mind Jesus revealed that "the kingdom of G-d is within you" he didn't, I would assume, expect us to realize this truth instantly upon hearing these words.  But, the more we develop our mind to discover more and more of that which is within us we shall go beyond mere beliefs and realize to a greater degree the truth that will set us free from the noise and nonsense of the world.

Keep the faith!
