of my favorite characters in the Bible is Nehemiah, who undertook the
task of rebuilding the walls of the city of Jerusalem - a symbol of
prayer. The surrounding tribes did everything they could do to
harass Nehemiah in his work and prevent the wall from being completed.
They conspired to have him come out to the plains of Ono for a meeting,
where they would slay him. I see him standing tall upon the wall
and proclaiming dramatically, "I am doing a great work and I cannot
come down." It is a fine credo for the sincere student of
truth. ... Get the feeling that every difficulty that seems to disrupt
the consciousness achieved by your prayer is like a bell ringing to
remind you to reaffirm who and what you are, to remember the truth that
"If you want to you can, because you couldn't want to if you
couldn't. Your desire is proof positive of your ability."
Realize this ... and keep on. Your power to see a goal at all is
also the power to see it through to achievement. Believe this, and
act as if you believed it. ... Stand tall upon the wall of your
spiritual defenses, and proclaim to the harassing negative thoughts that
would lure you into chaos: "I am doing a great work and I
will not come down.”
- Eric Butterworth,
The Universe Is Calling
My mind truly went radiant with Eric
Butterworth's words: "If you want to you can, because you
couldn't want to if you couldn't." These words speak to the
power of mind within each and everyone of us ... it is a simple way of
expressing a profound truth, that everything comes from G-d, that is,
the Mind of G-d ... and our wants and desires is the flow of this Mind
through our mind. Our desires and our wants are our true
blessings. The material effects, the things and experiences, are
the natural consequences of realizing that we have been blessed with
wants and desires that expand our good in whatever way we choose to.
Whatever it is that we want or desire, we must
protect in our mind from not only the negative ramblings of the world
around us, but the negative chatter that often enters our own mind.
As we choose to think of these as reminders to keep centered and on
purpose to achieving our desires, we shall strengthen our conviction and
realize the guidance from Infinite Intelligence that is necessary for us
to see our desires fulfilled. In the story of Nehemiah we should
pay special attention to these words, "I am doing a great work and
I cannot come down" ... in other words, keep our mind's attention
on what we know is ours in the Un-Seen and not let our thoughts become
earthbound where appearances can deceive us.
When the Master Mind
Jesus declared, "get thee behind me Satan" he was referring to
the thoughts in his mind that were attempting to discourage him and even
defeat him in fulfilling that which he knew was his to do. Every
word of discouragement or thought of failure, no matter whose mouth it
may appear to come from, is mirroring back to us our own thoughts of
discouragement and failure. We don't have to fight them, or resist
them, but instead, we must fill our mind with thoughts of conviction and
Too often we let the desires that come to
our minds and hearts to waste away as we fail to fully accept them as
ours. We don't take "ownership" of them or see them as
personal to us. Within our "wants" and
"desires" is all the blessings we will ever receive ... but,
it is up to us to "own them" ... accept them as
"ours" ... to use them as guidance and direction ... and to
know that all that is necessary for us to experience them fulfilled will
be provided for us as everything has already been prepared for us.
In our mind we must cease thinking that our blessings are the things we
can feel, touch, taste and smell ... but that our real blessings are the
desires and wants that fill our mind and hearts.
Let us fully realize right now, right where we
are, that every good desire of our heart and every good thing that we
want to do, to be, or to have ... is the "Word of G-d" being
spoken to us, for us. Our desires and wants are the results of the
"Impersonal" personalizing Itself to us. And, as I have
stated before, we must take our blessings; desires and wants, personally
... and allow ourselves to be prepared for the results that we desire
... infinite Intelligence already knows that we are intelligent enough,
talented enough, strong enough and determined enough ... to have and to
do the things that It desires for us, through us.
Let us say these words from Dr. Frank
Richelieu's book, The Art of Being Yourself, and believe them: "The
more I believe I can, the more I can. I am sustained and
maintained every step of the way. No matter how often I must try
again, I do not become discouraged. I learn from my experience and
move ahead again."
SO IT IS!
