Who seeks for Heaven alone to save his soul may keep the path, but will not reach the goal; while he who walks in love may wander far, yet God will bring him where the blessed are.
       - Henry Van Dyke (1852-1933)

As we move through this experience called Life, we have many opportunities to bring into our experience a greater awareness of God.  God Is Joy, Happiness, Light, Love, Peace and Harmony.  These attributes of God have an energy to them, a spirited energy.  The greatest gift we can give ourselves and others is more of each of these attributes of God.  As we "let go and let God" move into our experiences we open our minds and hearts to the flow of this energy in our affairs and the affairs of those we love.

As we recognize that Peace is an energy we can recognize this attribute of God in even the most difficult of circumstances.  This recognition that Peace is already present, will bring forth Peace as it dissolves the appearance of conflict.  As we recognize Joy as energy and an attribute of God we can draw it forth even when the appearance is one of sadness or deep depression.  The same recognition of the omnipresence and omnipotence of Love, Harmony and Light brings them forth in exactly the same manner.  These attributes of God have great power and our realization of this power draws them forth into visibility.

As God Is All there Is and therefore there Is only One Mind, which Is the Mind of God, what we realize for ourselves we can realize for others.  We can recognize for anyone that beyond their tears and their fears is great Happiness and Joy, waiting to be recognized and brought forth.  Behind the appearance of depression and illness is this same great Harmony, waiting to be recognized and harmonized into perfect health and wholeness.  Where there is coldness and indifference, we can draw forth Love into greater visibility.  This Power Is within each of us and works for us as we recognize It.

From the great metaphysician, Ralph Waldo Trine, we can realize:  "To live to our highest in all things that pertain to us, to lend a hand as best we can to all others for this same end, to aid in the righting of wrongs that cross our path by means of pointing the wrongdoer to a better way, and thus aiding him in becoming a Power for Good...."

"To lend a hand to all others," this oftentimes becomes a healing for things in our own lives that are just not what we want them to be.  As we turn from our own "stuff" and lend a hand to others, our "stuff" becomes easier to manage and solve.  It no longer has our attention or resistance and as we take our thoughts from our problems the resolution comes with grace and ease.

Now, this is the big one!  "To aid in the righting of wrongs that cross our path by means of pointing the wrongdoer to a better way.." It is so much easier not to do this, to let things go, to make excuses for people and let them off the hook, to look the other way.  Or worse yet, to have sympathy for them, to see them as less than strong, wise and capable of doing better.   This is spiritual malpractice and human arrogance.  Everyone has the strength and love of God within them.  Everyone has the Power of God waiting within them to come forth in greater visibility.  In our human-ness, however, we worry that we will be seen as arrogant, as egotistic or as less than compassionate if we attempt to point someone in a better direction.  Acting on the words of Ralph Waldo Trine may even cost us a few friendships and create some "spirited" discussions with those we love.  However, when we do this with genuine love and with the honesty from our heart of hearts, our purpose becomes powerful and brings forth the Love that strengthens and heals.  We cannot heal that which we dismiss or deny - it is not possible.  Healing comes from understanding where we are at, what we are doing and what we must do to move through whatever it is to something better.  We can never go anywhere by ignoring where we are at and if we want to genuinely help anyone we must be willing to take them from where they are to the next step in consciousness or leave them to go it alone without judgment and condemnation.

To "lend a hand to others, to aid in the righting of wrongs and to point the wrongdoer to a better way" are the Greatest Gifts we can give. These gifts we give to the Christ within us and the Christ within others.  In the giving, we grow spiritually, grow beyond our human fears and sympathies, and we become a channel for God to heal, prosper and bless all those in our experience, including ourselves.  Since It Is God that leads us to it, It Is God that leads us through it!
 And So It Is!

Letting Love use me in Its own Good Way,
Henry Lee Bates
