He told them: “Take nothing for the journey—no
staff, no bag, no bread, no money, no extra shirt. 4
Whatever house you enter, stay there until you leave that town. 5
If people do not welcome you, leave their town and shake the dust off
your feet as a testimony against them.”
- attributed to Jesus, Holy Bible, Luke 9:3-5
The New Year is just a few days away and this
is a wonderful opportunity for us to contemplate what we
"choose" to experience as we move forward. Each of us
can realize a greater good as we take the time to understand the words
of the Master Mind Jesus from the Book of Luke. "Take
nothing for the journey," he told the people, and by this we
know that he meant we are to loose our mind of the old thoughts and
ideas that no longer benefit us, and open our mind to the new, the
greater, and the more appealing. And this means that we have to
leave behind the old images of ourselves that we have accepted from the
world and accept within our mind a greater power, a greater wisdom, and
a greater ability to demonstrate the life that we hope for, dream about,
and pray for.
Many of us continue to live in a "comfort
zone" ... that is, we are comfortable with our life the way it is.
But, since the Spirit is always seeking to express Itself through us in
a greater, more expansive way, this comfort zone state of mind can cause
frustration, anxiousness, and dissatisfaction. The Radical Jesus
taught that we are to "resist not evil"
... but for most of us this is not a problem ... it is the "resisting
our greater good" that causes us to become uncomfortable.
The Spirit is always seeking to enjoy life through us in new ways,
always bringing to our awareness through our thoughts, our dreams, or
the things that get our attention, something new for us to do, to be, or
to have. We are the Life of the Spirit in human form ... and the
Spirit is infinite ... and infinite in Its seeking newness through us.
This newness can be as simple as the idea for a new dress that appeals
to us, or the idea to shave our face less and grow a beard. Or as
life-changing as moving to a new city, beginning a new career, or ending
a relationship. Every new idea, every new thought, is originating
from the Spirit weaving its way through our mind.
It is, of course, the life-changing ideas that
stop many of us. This is where not only our faith comes into play,
but also our confidence in the guidance of Spirit. And the two
areas of our life where this occurs the most is in our work, or careers,
and our relationships. The Master Mind Jesus put it this way:
"If people do not welcome you, leave their
town and shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them"
... in other words, if people do not respect our
consciousness, we must leave. We are not here to live to less than
who we are, but to be valued and supported in our good. Many
people struggle in relationships that are unhappy, discordant, and even
demeaning. And many people struggle for success and prosperity in
jobs that do not compensate them fairly or support them in their goals
and ambitions. The Radical Jesus is telling us to leave them and
forget them ... "shake the dust off your
feet" means to eliminate these things from our
consciousness. Instead, we are to establish in our consciousness
the faith and confidence that dispels the fear or concern about making a
life-changing decision ... and make the decision, and make a commitment
to it. As Dr. Bitzer taught, if we are not finding success where
we are, we are not in our right place. And by success, he means
happiness, peace of mind, prosperity and creative expression. If
the people around us do not recognize our consciousness ... and
therefore do not recognize our value or our worth ... then we are not to
resist them, but make the decision, and stick to it ... and move on,
first in consciousness, and then in the physical ... if
"I am pure Intelligence,
always acting intelligently." If you can say this without
subconscious rejection of the fact, you are well along on the pathway of
spiritual understanding. If the central idea involved here causes
no conflict in your acceptance of yourself as Intelligence, then you are
ready to live effectively. You cannot go beyond your own
self-accepted image. As long as you underestimate yourself, you
cannot succeed in life. No person is stupid. Stupidity is
only a misuse of Intelligence in non-intelligent ways. Everyone,
including you, is Mind in action, with the potentials of greatness
awaiting the individual's demand that they shall come forth out of the
depths of consciousness and begin creative action."
- Dr. Raymond Charles Barker, The Power of Decision
Dr. Barker writes, "if you can
say this without subconscious rejection of the fact" ... that is,
we must know that Intelligence is actively intelligent within our own
mind. Otherwise, doubt will obstruct our ability to make decisions
and choices that lead us into the awareness of that something greater
that we desire to experience. Once we make a decision, and fully
commit to it, that Something that we call G-d, Infinite Spirit ...
through Law and Love, moves heaven and earth to support us in our
decision. And by this I don't mean "intervention" ...
but through the Law of Attraction all people and all things necessary
for us to achieve that which we have made the decision to achieve will
show up. Through Love, that is, the giving-ness of the Spirit, the
awareness of what to do and how to do it, is ours. "That
which I am to do best, only my Maker can teach me," wrote Emerson
... and these powerful words are the truth for all of us. But ...
G-d cannot make a decision for us ... we must make our own decisions and
we must make our own commitments to these decisions ... G-d works
through these activities in our mind, for us, through us.
Our question then is, "do I resolve to
move on" ... to be more, to have more, to experience more of the
Good that the Divine has prepared for me? Am I ready to accept
that the desires of my heart are G-d's desires for me? Am I ready
to make a commitment to the choices and decisions that our mine and mine
alone to make? If we don't love what we do
and love who we are doing it ... then it is our time to resolve to move
on. As Dr. Barker writes; "everyone is Mind in action, with
the potentials for greatness awaiting our demand that they shall come
forth out of the depths of consciousness and begin creative
action." We have the power of decision, always.
SO IT IS!
